Santorini Private Wine Adventure Tour
Duration
We start by picking you up from the location of your choice, by one of our experienced local tour guides who will take you to the most legendary wineries and traditional cellars of Santorini, through a unique wine-tasting journey.
We select three of the best wineries, based on flavors that you wish to explore. Relax, enjoy the scenery and savor the best, rarest wines in the world, produced in the very vineyards of Santorini.
The vineyards of Santorini are 3.500 years old and thus are considered one of the oldest on the planet!
1st Winery is: Koutsoyannopoulos
Your unforgettable Wine Adventure Tour will start from: Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum, awarded amongst the top 10 Wine Museums of the World!
This one of a kind museum, happens to be nestled in a cave and because of its unique position, this natural labyrinth is eight meters below ground and 300 meters long.
This wine museum is the only natural underground wine museum in all of Greece, which has an 8m depth and 300m length (like a Labyrinth). Learn about the history of wine making from 1660, accompanied with an audio guide, which is in 21 languages!
Package includes: Wine tasting of four (4) different wines accompanied with crackers & chocolate.
Guests will see the stages of the wine making process including ploughing in the vineyards, and then harvesting, stomping, and weighing of the grapes. They will also learn about the range of machinery necessary to make wine all the way through to what is used today.
Some of the exhibits include rare machinery and tools that will transport visitors back to a different time. This valuable equipment was used by past generations of Koutsogiannopoulos wine makers who devoted their lives to producing wine of the highest quality.
2nd Winery is: Venetsanos
The winery is located in the most breathtaking location offering incredible views over the caldera and volcanic islands.
The winery was built in 1947 by the Venetsanos family and became the first industrial winery on the island.
The winery today offers you the chance to walk through and discover the history and tradition as well as the new wine-making techniques.
Package includes: Wine tasting of four (4) wine varieties accompanied with assorted snacks.
3rd Winery is: Argyros Estate
Argyros Estate, established in 1903, has remarkable facilities, it’s the most modern winery in the island.
Argyros Estate works almost exclusively with old vines because only these vineyards can provide the depth, the definition and the concentration needed to produce the desired style of wine.
For all wine lovers, this tour offers a nice introduction to the indigenous grapes of Santorini and the story of Argyros Estate, featuring a selection of four (4) current vintage wines, accompanied with an assortment of fine Greek cheese and bread sticks.
Also you will learn from the experts some secrets of the local grapes as well as the story of Argyros Estate.
Santorini, the youngest volcanic island in the Eastern Mediterranean, awaits with its once-in-a-lifetime romance and magical charm. Don’t think twice—come and experience it for yourself!Venetsanos Winery

SPECIAL INFO:
Santorini is one of the most surreal vine growing environments on the planet. The island sits on an active volcano, with extremely young and infertile soils, with almost zero potassium and almost zero clay. This last characteristic makes Santorini not just Phylloxera-free but Phylloxera-immune, meaning that the Phylloxera bug will never have the chance to invade the island.
The climate
The climate of the island is hot Mediterranean, with very little rainfall during the growing season but plenty of sunlight and fierce winds. Without fog coming out of the caldera every morning, providing moisture in a most sophisticated drip irrigation system provided by nature, very little vegetation could survive in Santorini.
The "basket" prunning
The kouloura, basket shaped, training system of Santorini was developed, out of millennia of trial and error, as a response or even consequence of this bizarre growing environment. The compact shape of the basket protects inside it the flowers and later the fruit from the severe winds, while it also traps humidity. The downside of it is low, very low yields.
When the above ground part of the vine, the basket, gets too big and too hard to work with, it is removed, while a cane close to the root system, undisturbed by Phylloxera, is kept to provide growth for the new basket. Therefore, the age of the above-ground part of the vines in Santorini is usually different from that of the root system, which can exceed one or even two centuries. Santorini, for sure, contains some of the oldest vitis vinifera specimens in the world.

If you're a cruise-ship passenger:
You will disembark in Santorini by tender boats arriving only at the old port of Fira.
To find the exit of the cable car in Fira follow these steps:
- Take a tender boat from your cruise ship
- Once ashore, go to the cable car
- Pay a ticket of 10 Euros per person (one way), take a cable car ride up to Fira town (3 min.)
- Exit the cable car building.
- Behind the gate, our guide or driver will be holding an Santorini Tour Lovers sign with your name on it.
✅The stairs bring you next to the cable car exit but we strongly recommend using the cable car for your convenience.
⚠️The old port of Santorini, called Skala, located in Fira (where cruise ships dock), is not accessible by car.
1. Cable Car : The Santorini cable car is a donation from the LOULA & EVAGGELOS NOMIKOS Foundation, created to serve both locals and thousands of visitors throughout the year. Completely safe, it consists of six wagons, each with a capacity of six people. The fare is €10 per adult and €6 per child, one way. Payment can be made by cash or card.
2.Stairway: Climbing the 588-steps stairway will take about 20-30 minutes depending on your physical condition. The main challenge, besides keeping your stamina, is avoiding the donkeys that use the path.
3. Donkeys: While donkeys can be hired to take you up the hill, we strongly advise against it. The donkeys used to be the traditional transportation way of the island. They go up and down to the old port of Fira frequently. The price is 10 euro about per person (per way) and the ride lasts about 20 minutes. It’s not safe, and we oppose any form of animal exploitation.
The donkeys arrive at a different place in Fira, not to the cable car exit.
The old port of Santorini, called Skala (where cruise ships dock), is not accessible by car.
